Think About This:

 Acts 1.4; 1.12-14
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

The apostles were active from the start. We have discussed the apostles’ active waiting before in youth group. Jesus in verse 4 tells the apostles to wait in Jerusalem for the gift that God has promised them, the Holy Spirit. The apostles waited but they did it actively. Right after they watch Jesus ascend they get down to business. They have been given a task by Jesus, to make disciples!!
I love that the first thing they do is pray. Prayer is such a central part of a Christian’s life. Prayer is one of the spiritual disciplines we as Christians need to adopt. We need to make prayer so central that it starts, is in the middle of and is at the end of everything we do.
Active waiting is one of the many aspects of our faith.
